So Isaac, my oldest son and I are talking about his future. He’s telling me his plans, We’re strategizing. I’m coaching. Like that.

All of a sudden he turns the tables on me and asks why I’m worried about the economy and my job situation specifically. I try to explain it to him and after I’m done he replies by listing all the options he thinks I have. Tells me all the things he thinks I could do. All the options I could explore.

Later on when he’s left to head back to college, I’m thinking about the conversation. It dawns on me that he still thinks I can do anything. At a time in my life where I feel as though the world is closing in on me and my options are steadily narrowing, my nearing 23 year old son still thinks I can do anything.

How cool is that? These are the kinds of things they don’t tell you about. Those special fleeting moments you’d never experience if you didn’t have kids. Those times that make you glad you endure and remain committed to family life. Thanks Isaac. You blessed me.
